How-To Tuesday: Buffing Out Those Ugly Swirls and Scratches

swirls and scratches

When it comes to swirls and scratches, I’ve got it the worst. My C209 is black, and even though the quality of the Mercedes paint is really good, black exposes those imperfections more than any color. So how does one take care of that? Thankfully, the folks at Driving Line have a step-by-step guide that will have your ride looking much better, and saving a ton of cash by showing you just how easy it is.

It sounds scary, but you do have to start with sand paper. But not the super abrasive stuff, as 1500-grit paper is all that you’ll want to use. Starting with small sections, Driving Line details (pun intended) the process, starting with that 1500 sand paper, proceeding to an even finer sand paper, then on to various stages of buffing. You’ll have to set aside some time, but there’s no doubt the finishing results will be rewarding.

I’ll be following this process soon on my car, starting with a clay-bar treatment to remove surface imperfections before getting pensive with the sand paper. Be sure to look out for that in a future post. And by all means, let us know if Driving Line‘s guide has worked for you.
