Just when you thought you’ve seen it all, now comes Texas Armoring Corporation with its recently-released bulletproof Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid sedan. It’s not only environment-friendly, but it can also withstand M16 and AK-47 rounds. Now that’s a custom Merc you don’t see everyday.

TAC brought their flagship T6 lightweight high-power rifle protection
line to the S400 Hybrid. The lightweight materials and technology used
to outfit the sedan is said to be around 30 to 40 percent lighter than
standard bulletproofing armor. This way, the hybrid sedan can still
maintain most of its fuel efficiency and performance won’t be hampered
by the extra protection.

“Armoring hybrid and electric vehicles is the future, and we’re
excited to lead our industry in this new direction by helping our
clients stay protected while still considering the environment,” stated
Trent Kimball, President and CEO of TAC. “Our armored Mercedes-Benz S400
Hybrid sedan is truly a category-creating product, and we hope to bring
quality, lightweight armored hybrid vehicles to market throughout the
world in 2011.”

TAC is looking to expand on its newly-created luxury armored hybrid line in 2011 after introducing it early in 2010.

The S400 Hybrid outfitted with the lightweight T6 level protection
has a going price of $255,000, plus the additional costs of further
options. US and European pre-orders for the vehicle will start January 3
next year.
