You Can Describe This 1978 Mercedes 300CD as Weird

The faultless Mercedes lineup that we know today is a bit of a contrast to how Mercedes built cars nearly 40 years ago. Sure technology has changed a bit, and we don’t need a fader dial immediately at hand for our radio, but there’s a couple of unique items in this 1978 300CD that Mr. Regular finds a bit weird. In addition to his regular review of this w123, in the video below, Mr. Regular sits with the owner and talks about other little tid-bits that might not be known by the masses.

Some of this weirdness is caused by the slightly imperfect state in which this particular car sits right now, such as having to manually plug in a glow-plug relay. Or even better is the knob on the dashboard with which you can adjust the engine idle speed, kinda like a choke. There’s even an auxiliary coolant pump that you can turn on from inside the car if it decides to warm up past the recommended operating temperature. We take for granted all of these things in a new car, so it’s a good thing to reflect back on the way things were.
