Sometimes a big V8 and a open road is all you need. Check out this C63 AMG getting after it in southern France.

It really doesn’t take much to make a petrolhead smile. Usually it comes in the form of a high-string V8, or epic driving roads. Both of those things together give a truly wonderful experience. And that’s what we have here. A C63 AMG Black Series carving up some french switchbacks. To be honest, this video from Mercedes Benz is a better advertisement for pre-owned AMG’s than it is for new ones. We’re still here for it.

With only 800 produced, the C63 AMG Black Series is a very rare Mercedes. But what made it so special? Well it had an entirely new and different rear axle to deal with the higher output from the M156 V8. Horsepower sits at 517, which is above any prior ’63, and the internals share a lot from the M159. The car itself stays afloat on coilover suspension, bespoke to the Black Series. And of course it has a monster set of brakes to keep the V8 in check. And, if you wanted a bit more roll cage and less rear seats, the Black Series can accomodate.

With significant hardware ready to entertain, lets take a moment to enjoy the sights and sounds of this video. We begin with a cold-start and a few revs. Crackling and burbling exhaust hint at the joy about to ensue. Painted in Mars Red, this C63 AMG Black series is one of the more rare colors to leave the factory. Perfect color for chasing the red part of the tachometer.

If this kind of thing floats your boat, you might be hard pressed to find another Black Series. But that’s OK because a number of other options get you close. The C63 AMG 507 is only 10 horsepower shy, though you give up the trick suspension, and add practicality in the form of seats. And even if that is unavailable, the P31 optioned cars have a great amount of joy to be found when behind the wheel. It isn’t a Black Series, but with the M156 barking into your cochlea, you might not mind the differences.
