The GLE Coupe will be the first Mercedes to use the company’s new SUV naming system. It will also be the first Mercedes offered in the AMG Sport trim level. With that AMG Sport designation, the GLE will receive the AMG twin-turbo V6, which makes 367 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, before any other M-B does.
I’ve never thought that the 577 horsepower pumped out by the E63 AMG S-Model is not enough. Apparently, the guys over at Vath tuning have, and figure the car needs a 28-percent boost.
We all have our own unique ways of celebrating major accomplishments. Some of us indulge in a fancy meal at our favorite restaurant after getting a graduate school acceptance letter. Kleemann modified the turbos, upgraded the ECU, added a better flowing exhaust system, increased the size of the intercoolers, and did a whole host of other subtle changes. The effect? 850 horsepower and 970 lb-ft of torque. Brilliant!
While most automakers are focused solely on turbocharging and displacement reduction, there are those few companies that are still attempting to preserve their larger engines for future generations. In this instance, it’s Mercedes.
