Chris Harris Drifts Mercedes-AMG E63 S 4Matic+

Harris loves how this AMG feels like an M car. Is this good news?

It’s likely you’ve seen a few reviews for the Mercedes-AMG E63 S by now. But we can assure you, you’ll want to watch this one. Can a new car officially be launched if it hasn’t been slid around Anglesey by Top Gear’s diminutive man with a permanent tan?

Chris Harris Drifts Mercedes-AMG E63 S 4Matic+

We love watching Chris’ videos so much that we’ve been known to view some of them multiple times. Like this one, or this one, for example. He’s a really talented driver. He’s also been behind the wheel of every significant car for the last ten years and beyond. As far as we’re concerned, his word is gospel.

Harris really seems to like the AMG – and he should, as it’s right up his alley. It’s a luxury sedan with incredible horsepower from a big turbocharged V8 up front, with power routed to all four wheels. But its optional ‘drift mode’ effectively allows rear-wheel drive when selected. It’s safe to say that we’re on board with this new AMG too. It’s already trouncing all over Audi’s RS6. BMW’s new M5 reportedly had to up its game to compete too.

Whether you’ve selected the taut and predictable AWD mode, or the slick and slippery drift mode, the AMG E63 S seems like a riot to pilot around the track. Chris then takes the car around the Welsh countryside, and it seems to do just as well there. While the ride may not be supple enough to handle the cracked and potholed roads of the area, it still gets top marks from Chris as a nice place to spend some driving time. Another win for the AMG brand, then.
