AMG GT R Pro is the most extreme street-legal Merc available, and is perfect for those looking to get their kicks on the track.

Since its introduction the AMG GT R has been a long time favorite of enthusiasts who prefer their Mercedes’ as fast as possible. The GT R Pro version was released a few months ago and as its name implies it takes the already appealing receipt of the GT R and distills it even further until its nearly straddling the line between track focused streetcar and out and out racer. We covered the Pro in detail awhile back here and now the first production examples are starting to hit dealers, at least in Europe.

YouTuber Carvlogger got an up close and personal look at the first one to land in the Netherlands, where he went over it it’s high points in detail. This was also an extremely highly optioned example with an extreme price to match. “You might think this is a regular GTR,” he says. “But the Pro is recognizable with the checkered flag logo on the back.” He goes on to point out all the other visual ways that the Pro differs from the standard GT R, which are numerous. He doesn’t cover many of the changes under the skin of the GT R Pro

As Carvlogger points out, one of the most noticeable differences is found at the front, where there are revised canards fastened to the sides of the front bumper and the deeper carbon fiber, adjustable splitter. It’s proper track stuff to be sure that sets the GT R Pro apart from the standard GT R. At the tops of the front fenders are intakes seemingly inspired by the Porsche GT3 RS.

Inside, he notes that the PRO features a lower, more snug driving position thanks to the beautiful one-piece, leather clad Recaro race buckets. “Look at how deep and low you’re sitting,” he notes. “The PRO steering wheel is very racy.”  There is also a knob conveniently mounted to the center of the console that allows the driver to control how lenient or controlling the PRO’s traction control is. There is also a nicely crafted roll bar mounted in the rear area of the car, which adds to the Pro’s heavy, track-oriented vibe.

Under the hood of the GT R Pro is of course the same twin turbo V8 found in the standard GT R that pumps out an impressive 577-hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. Though there is no increase in power, the engine sounds as fantastic as ever, with a deep, hard-edged bellow coming from the exhaust when the throttle is blipped. “Very, very satisfying and deep sound from the interior,” he notes. “It sounds devilish, the thunderstorm of the AMG GT R PRO!”

The price for all this goodness? When Carvlogger reads off the final MSRP with all of the options added up, including VAT and all applicable fees the Pro comes to an impressive price of just over $300,000. It’s no doubt worth every penny for well-heeled track junkies.
