E63S AMG Comes from Behind to Stomp a Mustang GT

Ride along with a Ford Mustang GT as it gets crushed by a 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63S AMG.

The Ford Mustang has long been one of the most popular models in the world of drag racing, but the video above shows how a modified muscle car can be beaten down by a stock Mercedes Benz E63S AMG. This race was originally posted in the Kill Stories section by forum member vtknight and it features his 2014 E63S AMG going head-to-head in a quarter mile drag race with what appears to be 2010-2014 Mustang GT.

AMG vs. Coyote

The details on the Ford Mustang GT are short, but we know that it is powered by the 5.0L “Coyote” V8, with some minor modifications and a set of drag radial tires. In factory form, this muscle car offered either 412 or 420 horsepower (depending on the model year) and 390lb-ft of torque. Of course, the Mustang is rear-drive and it sounds like this particular pony car is fitted with the six-speed manual transmission. We don’t know what minor modifications have been made, but based on how badly it gets beaten by this Benz, it likely isn’t making a whole lot more power than it  did when stock.

E63S Stomps a Mustang GT

The 2014 Mercedes Benz E63S AMG is stock, packing a 5.5L, twin turbo V8 with 577 horsepower and 590lb-ft of torque being channel to all four wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission.

So, based on those stock power numbers, it seems like the Mustang doesn’t stand a chance, even though it is lighter than the AMG. However, stranger things have happened and that is why we all go racing.

Head-to-Head Battle

This race comes to us from the CarandRacer YouTube channel and it is is captured from a camera on the rear quarter panel of the Mustang, with the E63S in the left lane. When the green lights drop, the Mustang rips away from the starting line and the Mercedes disappears. At this point, you might be thinking that the Benz is going to take a beating, but around 330-foot mark, the twin turbo sedan comes blasting past and just keeps on walking away.

In the end, the E63S beats the Mustang so badly that we see the Mercedes’ ET of 11.82 flash up on the big board, with the Ford likely running in the low 12s.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
