G-Class Leaves No Space Unexplored in Picturesque Japan Trip

Name a better vehicle than a brand new G-Wagen to experience the Land of the Rising Sun’s ripe diversity and beauty.

Cars, as you likely know, are meant to be driven. And historically, the Mercedes G-Class was meant to be driven off-road, even though it makes a pretty incredible paved road cruiser as well. With a brand new G-Class upon us, Mercedes wanted to demonstrate this legendary model’s all-round capability. And what better place to do that than Japan, a country ripe with contrasts and extremes in terms of terrain? So they grabbed a pair of new G-Class ‘utes and headed out for two weeks of adventures.

To document the journey, Mercedes brought along a grand total of five photographers and filmmakers. Not only to record the excellence of the G-Class, mind you, but also the incredible diversity of Japan. From the urban wonderland of Tokyo to the ancient shrines and temples of Japan’s countrysides. This is a place with an impressive mix of tradition, urban lifestyle, beautiful nature, and rich history. You know, much like Mercedes-Benz.

All of which is captured perfectly in this beautiful, short video. We see the technical wonderland that is Tokyo, with its massive neon signs and endless concrete passageways. And other marvels like the Kawazu-Nanadaru Loop bridge, connected to a road that bends and twists like few others in the world.

The modern architecture present in Japan stands in stark contrast to the country’s traditional temples. And yet nature is just a short jaunt away, whether you seek out mountain ranges, muddy trails, or calm bodies of water.

It’s a fitting place, and a fitting journey, for one of the world’s most famous models. One that’s endured the test of time with few changes necessary. The G-Class, like Japan, offers many things to many people. And for that very reason, it soldiers on, looking no worse for wear.
