Modified G-Wagen 4×4 Squared Owners Take Over London
The 4×4 Squared seems so out of place, and yet perfectly at home on the infamously narrow roads of London.
Something interesting happened in the auto industry at the same time that it happened in the fashion industry. Rugged utility became a fashion statement. North Face and Timberland used to be for those dedicated to the rugged outdoors, but now are seen as a fashion accessory.
Off-roaders have exploded in popularity for exactly the same reasons. That said, seeing a group of Mercedes G500 4×4 Squared models trundling around London is a sight to see.
We’re treated to a few different 4×4 Squared versions in this video. A stock appearing white one is shown first, but a quick peek at the license plate shows it is very much not from the UK. A second matte grey one tuned by Mansory is up next. Added carbon fiber accents is the main attraction for this 4×4 Squared.
Brabus is represented by a school-bus yellow G-Wagon. Judging by the hint of turbo whistle emanating from this ride, some engine tinkering has been done. Rumbling down the streets next is the final flavor. If you like your coffee black, you’ll like this blacked out and mean looking G-wagon, which interestingly carries a foreign plate similar to the white one.
Of course, the last shot shows why these rides actually do fit in London. With supercars sprawled out all over, there’s a lot of eyes and attention to compete for. Ferrari GT’s, Mercedes SLR roadsters, and McLaren supercars are all fighting to be the most outlandish and garner the most attention. But those silly vehicles can actually fit in a parking space. When the camera pans around to the G500 sticking out into the street, you are forced to acknowledge its existence. And that’s exactly why everyone will ignore a gold-wrapped Ferrari in order to check out a boxy SUV.
