G63 AMG takes on Tesla and Rolls Royce Super SUVs

G63 AMG

Beloved G63 AMG might have 605 horsepower, but it also has some fierce competition.

AMG is known for speed, but they aren’t the only player in the game any more. In the super SUV segment, there’s a ton of competition. Especially when it comes to brash, big, in-your-face SUVs. For AMG they have the G63 AMG. It’s been around in many different forms over the years, starting with the G55, and now in the “63” variant. For 2025, it has 605 horsepower. Naturally, the most it has ever had.

But competition has more. Three more, in fact. That’s if you count the Tesla Cybertruck as competition. It’s a truck, rather than an SUV but UK’s Carwow decided it’d be fair game to throw it in a group of acceleration tests. As a polar opposite, the Rolls Royce Cullinan adds it’s 600 horsepower V12 to the mix.

Acceleration is a funny thing. A funny thing that almost always favors EVs. Despite the heft, the Tesla Cybertruck can get off the line, and get a head of steam built faster than either of the piston powered rides. But once the EV has its initial thrust extinguished, the gasoline powered rides have their chance to shine.

At the top end of things, the G63 AMG and the Cullinan reel in the Tesla. After all, it runs out of steam at 140 miles per hour. While the G63 seems to win a few of the challenges, it’s quite surprising to see the Rolls chip away at the lead. It weighs nearly the same as the AMG, but with a bigger V12, it has gobs of torque to push it through the air.

One thing helping out the Cullinan is the very obvious aerodynamic advantage. No one’s going to claim a G63 cuts through the air like an EQXX. But then again most drivers are likely not testing the top speeds of their cars. But it is fun to have a little burst of acceleration here and there.

One thing not mentioned was how much juice the Cybrtruck consumed during these speed tests. At full chat, those kilowatt hours deplete quite rapidly, at least more rapidly than they can be replenished…
