How does an older model that hasn’t quite reached classic status earn a price tag of roughly 11-million dollars?

Well, the story of this SLR McLaren, priced at €9,999,999 (approximately $10,905,000) might provide some insight.

If you know anything about the collaboration between Mercedes and McLaren, you know that the partnership has birthed some pretty cool cars. One was the SLR McLaren, which made its street debut in 2003 and went on to inspire a number of special edition and limited-edition models, including the SLR 722.

According to AutoEvolution, SLR 722 production was limited to only 150 units. The car was built to commemorate the 1955 Mille Miglia victory run in a 300 SLR driven by the legendary Sir Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson.

The anniversary SLR 722 went on to inspire a more-exclusive model in 2010 known as the MSO, which involved owners taking their Mercedes-Benz SLR to McLaren’s Special Operations division for a more exclusive upgrade.

Due to a much lower SLR production run than initially expected, there wound up being only 25 models of the MSO SLR 722 produced. The model pictured here, with that price tag of nearly $11 mill, is one of the rare ones left.
