How Much Does It Cost to Get a Beat-up C43 AMG Fixed at a Dealer?

By -

Mercedes often get a bad reputation for being expensive to maintain, but there’s proof they are still cheap, even with a ratty example.

Old AMG’s have a certain appeal, but mostly because depreciation had hit them pretty hard. But with age and mileage comes wear and maintenance. MBWorld has a large resource of shopping tips and DIY articles for maintenance and repairs, but each used car has been cared for differently. As appealing as the car’s low price is, they often come with one significant truth: they often aren’t mechanically perfect.

Don’t blame the car, blame the owner.

Sadly, the reason why most of these cars fall into such a sad state of disrepair is due to the previous owner. Either they feel that some items aren’t worth addressing like a slow leak, they don’t know how to repair it themselves, or they get a bit of sticker shock at dealer cost for repair. They bought the car cheap, and expected cheap repairs to accompany it. Regardless of which way it happens, maintenance and repair items stack up, giving the false impression of an unreliable car. Repairing the fan and radiator on this AMG, for instance, wouldn’t have even been necessary if the previous owner just fixed the cheap fan shroud in the first place.

As a benefit to us who are comfortable with spinning a wrench, we can get away with inexpensive maintenance through doing it ourselves. But like the video shows, there’s other options aside from a dealer, including independent shops and even mechanics who will do cash jobs on the side for those who might not have the space or time to fix our own rides.
