Mercedes-Benz Refines the Art of Camping with ‘Marco Polo’ Concept
New video shows off all the high-tech features that make the Marco Polo luxury van the future of camping.
When we think of van life and camping, we don’t usually think of high-end luxury and sophisticated technology. As it turns out, Mercedes-Benz has developed a luxury concept conversion van called the “Marco Polo” that makes roughing it not so rough, as seen in the above video from its official YouTube channel. The Marco Polo features a number of clever functions that lets the driver enjoy the great outdoors with signature Mercedes-Benz style and comfort.
In the video, our camper awakes to a peaceful morning, replete with birds chirping and a blissful stretch that comes from a night spent under the stars. As he gets up from the pop-up roof sleeping loft, he heads down to the main cabin. It is sleek and modern. He chats with the van, utilizing its voice-controlled functions. These include everything from adjusting lighting, to checking weather. The van is equipped with automated seats that can fold down for additional sleeping, or lounging, as well as a table. There are charging stations for all devices, and the functions of the van can also be controlled by smart phone.
Our camper makes a pot of joe on the cooktop, and uses the automated technology to retract the awning and popup roof. There is a bike rack that has a solar charging station, and a 360-degree camera in the van to help with easy navigation, back-up, or attaching toys to tow. There is a clever twist in this video as to where our outdoor explorer actually is.
The Marco Polo is beautifully designed, and the details are ambitious and cutting-edge. It is certainly an interesting departure for Mercedes-Benz, but one that definitely could find serious footing in the market right now. It’s the perfect solution for someone who likes getting away from it all, but maybe wants to do so with a little luxury, comfort, and accessibility.
