Not a Track Battle: Mercedes‑AMG GT R Versus the Nissan GT-R

By -

In this clash of titans, Auto Express compares and contrasts the Mercedes‑AMG GT R and the Nissan GT-R.

These two sports cars may use the GT tag followed by an R to define themselves, but beyond being brutally fast with plenty of room in the trunk, they’re different animals. Both may run twin turbos, but the Nissan uses a V6 while the Mercedes has a V8. The Nissan’s engine powers all four wheels, while the Mercedes delivers all of its power to the rear. The Mercedes starts at $157,000. The Nissan is yours for “just” $109,990.

However, both cars are track weapons for the road. Whether anyone would actually cross shop the two is debatable. But for those of us without a couple hundred grand burning a hole in our pockets, it’s fun to see these two compared. Auto Express has done just that, and along with a couple of timed challenges, put the cars through some subjective tests.

After you’ve seen the video, the real question is: If you had to choose between the two, what color would your Mercedes‑AMG GT R be?

His obsession with cars started young and has left him stranded miles off-road in Land Rovers, being lost far from home in hot hatches, going sideways in rallycross cars, being propelled forward in supercars and, more sensibly, standing in fields staring at classic cars. His first job was as a mechanic and then trained as a driving instructor before going into media production.

The automotive itch never left though, and he realized writing about cars is his true calling. However, that doesn’t stop him from also hosting the Both Hand Drive podcast.
