Mercedes-AMG C63 S Schools Audi A6 on the Art of Drag Racing

By -

Diesel Audi TDI just can’t keep up with the monstrous power of the biturbo V8 monster.

If you were to think of a few drag-race competitors for the Mercedes-AMG C63 S, a diesel Audi A6 probably won’t even make your Top-10 list. However, today we have got exactly that, a straight-line sprint between these two vehicles, courtesy of Denmark-based YouTube channel, Roak.

Remember, even in its most potent guise, a C7 A6 3.0 TDI produced no more than 309 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque, allowing for a 0-62 miles per hour time of 5.1 seconds. By comparison, the C63 S gets a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 motor capable of generating over 500 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, helping the sedan reach 0-62 mph in roughly four seconds. That is a massive difference in performance, for drag racing.

Thus, as one would expect, the C63 S effortlessly ends up winning the contest. The A6 did provide some challenge to the Merc at the start, but ultimately, we were comparing apples to oranges.

Frankly, the contest would have been far more interesting if the C63 S would have gone up against the new Audi RS5 Sportback, which makes 444 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque and goes from 0-62 mph in just under four seconds.

Mercedes-AMG C63 S vs Audi A6 Drag Race

This is not to say that the A6 3.0 TDI is a substandard vehicle. It has more than enough muscle for daily driving, but if you want to drag race a full-blown AMG, then you’d either have to tune the vehicle or upgrade to an Audi RS model.
