AMG E63 Rocks Dyno with 500 WHP

It doesn’t take much to extract lots of extra power from an AMG E63, as we find out in this informative thread.

Though Mercedes has moved on and abandoned its attractive angular styling, the W212 E-Class still holds a soft spot in our hearts. This is a truly fantastic looking machine, no doubt. But let’s not let looks overshadow the performance potential of the beastly AMG E63 from this era. Right out of the box, this fast family hauler could rip off 4.0-second 0-60 times and a 12.5-second quarter mile thanks to its 518 hp, 6.2-liter V8. And like many modern engines, it doesn’t take much to unleash even more power. And that’s exactly what MB World member Celicasaur proved recently in this thread.

“Finally got my car dialed in at the dyno over the weekend. The car made bags more torque and horsepower than the previous EC V6 tune 2). It’s quite eventful now at WOT in 1st and 2nd gear on the street (if it hooks!). And my 60-80mph is 1.7 seconds now versus 2.1 seconds before, and 40-60mph is 1.5-1.6 seconds vs 1.9 previously. Feel free to correct the numbers and round them down if need be, but bear in mind that this was on a Dyno Dynamics and not a Dynojet. No matter how you want to look at it/correct it (yes air temps were favorable, but humidity was a bit meh), the before/after is what makes the seat of the pants feel so good when driving it.”

Considering the mods, that’s pretty darn impressive for this lightly-tuned AMG E63.

“Mods of relevance to the figures:

  • DPE headers – de-cat – 3″ straight pipes
  • Kleemann cams
  • M159 lifters
  • K&N air filters
  • 82mm throttle bodies with velocity stacks
  • Copper plugs 1.2mm gap
  • 7kg 2-piece lighter rear rotors
  • HP Tuners Celicasaur custom tune”AMG E63
