Could This Be Mercedes-AMG’s First Totally Hideous Design in Decades?

Seconds after the unveiling of the Mercedes-AMG GT Concept at the Geneva Motor Show, shock waves of WTFs, WTHs, and STFUs could be seen and felt throughout social media. What was supposed to dazzle the world with its supreme hybrid power efficiency, disappointed three-pointed star fans around the globe. Are you one of them?

According to a Mercedes-Benz press release, this four-door coupe heralds a further extension of the AMG GT family, following the legacy of the SLS AMG and AMG GT. We don’t know about you, but we’re having a very hard time seeing any resemblance of the aforementioned gorgeous machinery.

Designed exclusively by Affalterbach’s finest, the exterior stands out with extremely muscular proportions and seductive styling. Or as Mercedes likes to call it: “Sensual Purity.” Excuse me, but what?

With a front fascia reminiscent of a futuristic BMW M car, and wheels worthy of a Pimp My Ride episode, we feel nothing but disappointment toward the GT Concept. Perhaps we need to focus more on the technology, and less on the design.

According to the press release:

“Impressive driving dynamics coupled with high-efficiency, resulting from an innovative drive system tailored specifically to the vehicle segment – that is ‘Future Performance’ made by AMG. With our AMG GT Concept, that means a combination of an ultra-modern V8 gasoline engine and a high-performance electric motor, both intelligently networked with an extremely powerful yet lightweight battery concept. This performance hybrid powertrain offers an impressive electric range and the opportunity to generate a system output of up to 805 horsepower in its last level of development, and covers the sprint from 0-60 mph in less than three seconds – which corresponds to the performance of a super sports car, said Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.”

Does that sound juicy enough to make you drool at this concept? Let us know!
