Mercedes-AMG One Set to Debut on June 1

The Mercedes-AMG One concept was revealed five years ago, but the wait for the production version is finally about to end.
The Mercedes-AMG One concept promised to be a street legal car with Formula One levels of performance. It will make crazy power and come with a matching crazy price tag. Oh, and all 275 examples are already sold out. But the concept was shown several years ago. And the wealthy and well-connected collectors that bought the car really don’t know what they are getting. We have seen some camouflaged cars running around and a few teaser pics but not much more. Well, that is all finally about to end. On the Mercedes-AMG Instagram page is a post with a short teaser video. In this video it states that the full production ready reveal is to take place on June 1. Get your popcorn ready.
The images here were pulled from that teaser video. And as you can tell there is not a whole lot to see. Hence the whole point of a teaser video. But there are some things that seem clear. The video is dark, but the lines of the car are covered in a reflective tape or perhaps thin LEDs to show off the silhouette of the new hypercar. From that we can tell that the car appears to look very close to the original concept.
Original Concept

One of the most incredible aspects of the concept is the engine that lives under the hood. It is expected to be a 1.6L V6 hybrid. That may not sound too exciting for a hypercar but this is not a fuel sipping hybrid. A version of this powerplant is what powered the Lewis Hamilton Formula One car back in 2015. In the Mercedes-AMG One this turbocharged unit is expected to produce over 1,000 horsepower and rev to 11,000 RPM. That is a redline you expect in a sport bike not a streetcar. This thing is going to be special.
Race Car Performance

Hypercars are not only fast on road and track, but they also have technology that advances very quickly. What was a world beater yesterday could be mid-pack today. And this car has been a number of years in the making. Can it still perform on par with the best cars in the world? Well, considering this car borrows heavily from the world of Formula One, it may make sense to look there for an answer. Mercedes is currently in third place in the 2022 constructors championship standings. But they have won the constructors championship the last eight years in a row. So, there is no doubt that they know how to build a competitive car.
Almost Here
We already know that the 275 future owners are extremely lucky, but on June 1 we will learn exactly how lucky. More importantly we will get to see just how close the Mercedes-AMG One will be to an actual Formula One car. The fact that a road car is even in the same sentence as a Formula One racer is insane. But AMG has long been known for building cars that are a bit mad. This one should be the maddest of them all.
