Mercedes-Benz S600 Lorinser Owned by Michael Jordan Sold for $200K
This S600 Lorinser was once owned by the greatest basketball player ever, but it’s also a pretty cool car, too.
Since he first stepped on to the court, millions of people have aspired to “Be Like Mike,” or NBA legend Michael Jordan, that is. We all wear his shoes, don his clothing, and most of us re-lived his greatest moments in the recent documentary The Last Dance. Now, one lucky person is going to have the opportunity to own the 1996 Mercedes-Benz S600 Lorinser that the greatest basketball player of all-time once drove around in, including in a scene on the docuseries, because it was currently up for grabs on eBay.
Fittingly, the car was listed with a starting bid of $23 to reflect the number that Jordan wore for most of his illustrious career. But as of this writing, bidding has predictably come fast and furious, and the final bid was $202,200. But that’s what happens when you auction off a vehicle owned by not just the greatest basketball player ever, but one of the greatest and most influential athletes of all time.
As for the S600 Lorinser itself, the car was originally titled in both Jordan and his wife’s name, and it still bears their signatures. It’s finished in Metallic Navy Deep Blue with a gray interior, along with a set of chrome wheels for proper ’90s fashion. Back in its time, this was the car to have among athletes, musicians, and other folks flush with cash, and it’s every bit as cool today as it was back then.
As if all of that wasn’t cool enough, the car phone inside this special Mercedes is intact. And when you power it on, it shows Michael’s name on the dashboard. So if you want to breathe in some of the same smells Jordan did before he went out on the court and did things no other human could do, this seems like the perfect vessel for that purpose.
There’s arguably no greater bragging right than laying claim to owning Jordan’s car, that’s for certain. Especially one that personifies its era as well as this S600 Lorinser. Of course, that privilege won’t come cheap, but it rarely does. Kind of like how frequently we’re blessed with an athlete as special as M.J. was.
