At first glance, this would seem like a April Fool’s joke from Mercedes but it most certainly isn’t.

So far, 2020 has established very early on that we are living in unusual times. Between COVID-19 and the massive shakeup in the global economy, no one can argue that we aren’t otherwise. But while everyone else is offering 84-month, interest-free loans and 120-day loan deferments, Mercedes-Benz is showing its COVID-19 awareness in a different, more creative way.

The German carmaker took to its socials and posted an image of their iconic three-pointed star. Only this time, the “star” portion is now shorter in diameter. As you can probably guess, this is an ode to social distancing. And M-B fully supports the idea.

Naturally, many Facebook users were quick to congratulate M-B for the gesture. However this isn’t the only step Mercedes has taken in response to the growing pandemic.

Mercedes has recently committed its efforts to use its 3D printing technology to help with medical device production. “With our highly competent team and years of experience in 3D printing technology, we are ready to make our contribution to the production of medical devices,” said Jörg Burzer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz AG, Production and Supply Chain, in a recent press statement.

The automobile maker currently uses 3D printing machines to make approximately 150,000 plastic and metal components annually. This will undoubtedly be helpful in making ventilators and other much-needed medical devices.
