Mercedes GLS 63 AMG Gets the ‘Bird Box‘ Treatment

By -

Driving any AMG-powered Mercedes blind seems pointless. And as we discover from this test, it’s also pretty hard.

By now, every single person reading this has probably seen the smash Netflix film Bird Box. Which means you’re quite familiar with one of the movie’s most iconic scenes (spoiler alert!). We’re talking, of course, about the part where Sandra Bullock and crew take a blind trip to the grocery store, relying only on their vehicle’s GPS to get there. It was a rather intense scene, though wholly unbelievable if you’re a car person.

The scene has inspired way too many people to try and recreate it, which is obviously extremely dangerous and incredibly stupid. So at least in this video from HaveZeroLimits, our host chooses to attempt the challenge in a closed parking lot with a guide. His vehicle of choice is pretty nice too – the 2019 Mercedes GLS 63 AMG. Even though driving this thing blindfolded means you can’t take in that ultra pretty interior. Or the exterior for that matter, which looks pretty close to our earlier renderings.

Hilariously enough, our host has problems simply finding the Mercedes so he can get in it. “I have no clue where I’m going at this point,” he remarks. “How the hell do you find something by listening for a sound?” Eventually he gives up and just does a walkaround of the Mercedes before attempting the hard part – driving without looking where you’re going.

“This is scary,” he says. “I’m going like one mile per hour. Those guys were driving like 20 miles per hour.” Eventually, he determines that his sidekick was going to have to guide him along the way. But even that proves to be a massive challenge in a Mercedes ‘ute built to go fast. “I don’t know how much my heart can take,” he says a few minutes in.

Eventually, he gives up and just smashes the gas pedal, which is really the way to test any AMG-powered Mercedes. And that pretty much tells us everything we need to know. Unless opening your eyes while driving is guaranteed to kill you, why bother?
