Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet Sees New 6×6 Competitor

Kahn Design 6x6 Flying Huntsman

Land Rover is the basis for the Kahn Design 6×6 Flying Huntsman.

One thing that Mercedes never really captured was the fascination and romanticism associated with a car name. Granted, for a car sold worldwide, the alphanumeric name of “G650” is difficult to translate incorrectly. On the other hand, you have a company in Britain who’s just built a competitor to that landaulet off-roader, and it’s called the Flying Huntsman.

Granted, its full name is the Flying Huntsman 110 6×6 Double Cab Pickup Soft-Top. For now, we’ll stick with the first third of the name, as that does the trick. Taking the game directly to the Mercedes-Maybach G650, the Flying Huntsman is in the niche luxury segment of extreme off-roaders. As opposed to offerings from Mercedes, the Kahn Design off-roader offers a 6×6 drivetrain and a landaulet soft-top.

Kahn Design uses the tried-and-true Land Rover defender for the basis of its Flying Huntsman models, with the soft top model being a slightly tweaked version of the Double Cab Pickup. Power comes from an American source, with the LS3 V8 making a reported 500 horsepower.

Geneva’s Auto Show in 2018 will be the basis of a larger info release on this imposing ride. Will it prompt Mercedes to make a counter-move? Will someone come up with an 8×8? We’ll just have to wait and see.
