While the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition is impressive on its own, this car’s previous owner will probably be its biggest draw.

Before the McLaren P1, Ferrari LaFerrari, and Porsche 918 Spyder, few vehicles had enough performance to be called a hypercar. The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition, with its 650-horsepower supercharged 5.5-liter V8 engine, was one of the few machines that could claim the title. Out of 150 built, approximately 30 of these came to the U.S. Needless to say, finding one is extremely difficult.

Well, Motor Authority found an example for sale on Autotrader, but with a twist. This vehicle was previously owned by Michael Jordan, the greatest basketball player who ever lived. With a history like that, it’s no surprise that Crave Luxury Auto of Woodlands, Texas is asking a hefty premium for this lightly-used hypercar.

The ultra-rare SLR has just 1,038 miles on it and looks to be in museum condition. With that kind of mileage and provenance, the dealership believes it’s worth $625,000. That’s a lot more than what Mercedes was asking back in 2007, which was $480,000.

Still, this SLR just might be worth it. Thanks to its incredible engine and a fantastic chassis, zero to 62 miles per hour comes in just 3.6 seconds, which is still blindingly quick today. Plus, it’s an iconic nameplate that will stand the test of time. As Motor Authority points out, the “722” in the 722 Edition harks back to Stirling Moss and co-driver Denis Jenkinson’s epic run in a 300 SLR at the 1955 Mille Miglia.

The opportunity to get a rare hypercar like the SLR McLaren 722 Edition doesn’t happen often. And finding one that’s owned by an iconic athlete is almost impossible. Is an iconic vehicle that was owned by Jordan himself worth an additional $145,000? In this case, we’re inclined to say yes.
