Military Action Ready: 2016 Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen
A 6×6 G-Wagen in Army Green? Yep.
Tell anybody you’re buying a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen and most will picture the mighty G63 AMG 6×6. However, there’s a less flashy model—the G300 CDI 6×6—like the one we spotted on the German Cars for Sale Blog. It’s classified as a Light Armored Patrol Vehicle (LAPV), and is built for military purposes. It comes in a cab and chassis configuration that’s ready for aftermarket upfitting, and bed options for troop transports, flatbed decks, even gun platforms.
The G300 6×6 is powered by the venerable, all-aluminum 3.0-liter OM642 V6 turbo-diesel that makes 181 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. It even breathes through a snorkel for increased water fording capabilities. Mercedes-Benz five-speed automatic transmission manages the shifting while its 4WD system sends power to all three solid axles.
The truck rides on beadlock wheels with a central tire inflation system wrapped in 37-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires. Other features include a brush guard, off-road lights, a communications antenna mount, towing mirrors, and an olive drab matte paint scheme ready for a war zone.
Yet despite its utilitarian focus, this particular G300 didn’t sell cheap. The final price was a whopping $291,000 when it sold on eBay back in November of 2017. Sure, that’s far less than Mercedes-Benz’ $515,000 starting price for the G63 AMG 6×6 when it debuted in 2015, but the G300 lacks a leather-lined interior, crew cab, portal axles, and the 544-HP, 5.5-liter biturbo V8 engine. In other words, that’s some serious coin for a stripped-down model ready for war.
The seller, G Wagon Car Technology GmbH, is located roughly 40 minutes from the G-Class’ assembly plant in Graz, Austria. They specialize in all things G-Class, including used parts, pre-owned models, and the occasional brand-new G300. They also have worldwide shipping.
