Renault-Nissan to Supply Engines for Merc A- and B-Class

There have already been reports that AMG power plants will be used by a future crop of vehicles in Renault-Nissan’s Infinity Performance Line, but apparently the alliance between Renault-Nissan and Daimler isn’t just a one-sided affair. There have been indications that Renault-Nissan will be supplying engines for Merc’s next-gen A-Class and B-Class models.

Some French sources have let slip that the new Renault-Nissan 1.6L
turbodiesel engine rated at 128 brake horsepower will be headed to the
aforementioned Mercedes-Benz models as early as next year.

Aside from the crossover of engines and vehicle models, the
automakers are also working on some new three-cylinder and four-cylinder
engines that can be used for Mercedes, Renault, Smart and Nissan
models. They’re tinkering with both petrol and diesel variants, and
should have a capacity range of 1.2 liters to 1.8 liters.

Under the arrangement, Daimler is in charge of the engineering aspect
of the new engine project, while Renault will take care of building the
engines. These will be used on future A- and B-Class variants, and it
is highly likely that the next generation of Clio and Megane models from
Renault will also carry these engines. Let’s wait and see how the two
companies will make it easier for prospective buyers to sort out the
naming and the specs of these vehicles.
