The future of highway trucking might be here sooner than you think. Last week, a Mercedes-Benz semi-truck made its maiden self-driving voyage on a public road.

Mercedes is looking to dive feet first into the on-demand limousine business. One wrinkle though, the chauffeurs won’t actually have any feet.

To commemorate the 125th anniversary of Bertha Benz’s famous 100-kilometer drive to promote the automobile’s usefulness, Mercedes-Benz has become “the first motor manufacturer to demonstrate the feasibility of autonomous driving on both interurban and urban routes,” according to the voluminous press release below.
