The Sprinter 4×4 Is the Adventure Rig de Rigueur

My next-door neighbors are gearheads, not in the automobile sense of the word, but as in they love outdoors gear. Fishing, camping, skiing, boating, cornhole boards… you name it, they got it. They’re always going off on adventures, and I’m always jealously watching them leave. And now, to transport all their gear, they went and got a beautiful blue Sprinter 4×4. So now I’m way more jealous.

I don’t bring this up to get help with my envious ways, those are far too entrenched, I do so because Outside just did a great write-up on the 2015 Sprinter 4×4 titled “The Ultimate Guide to Your Next Adventure Vehicle,” and my neighbors are basically the personification of the article’s thesis. Basically, the Sprinter 4X4 is “cheaper, safer, and smarter than your ancient Vanagan.”

Vanagan’s aside — because there are way-better adventure rigs out there that aren’t at least 24-years-old — the 2015 Sprinter 4X4 is a great bet, especially at $42,975 base ($44k for the 2016). You get a 3.0-liter diesel V6 that can go 700 miles into the woods, plenty of torque (325 lb.-ft) to move you around the tough stuff, and a 3-pointed star up front!

My neighbors have been in the driveway fixing up their Sprinter ever since they bought it. They’re always back there prepping it to be their perfect adventure rig. But a lot of that customization can be done right at the dealership, with all sorts of configurations and options. Not enough to make it the “Sprinter Extreme Concept,” but still, enough to dial it in perfectly for your specific needs.

Outside has plenty more to say about how much they love the Sprinter 4X4, so check it out, then let us know what you’d do with your own Sprinter adventure rig!
