When Tiff Needell Speaks About Cars, You Listen
Tiff Needell has spoken, indeed. And he says that the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG coupe isn’t just more fun, but that under the right conditions (dry), it might also be faster than the Audi S5. Hooray!
This, of course, comes as no surprise to us Silver Arrow fanatics. While the C63 is constantly under fire for its hoonigan-esque behavior and lack of finesse, there are drivers that appreciate such visceral characteristics. Furthermore, the Benz packs seven more horsepower than the Audi, for a total of 451 over 444.
This Fifth Gear video features Tiff behind the wheel of both vehicles for back-to-back hot laps. First up is the Audi S5, followed by the C63.

The Audi manages 121 mph at the end of the back straight, and perfectly dances over the damp switchbacks, courtesy of its Quattro all-wheel drive.
The AMG registers a whopping 125 mph on the same straight, and manages to power through most corners with a time nearly identical to the S5. It’s not until the final (and very wet) hairpin that the rear breaks loose and Tiff goes wide. As a result, it costs the Benz precious time.
