The Mercedes 300SL Gullwing is perhaps one of the most iconic cars to come out of the 1950s. It’s absolutely gorgeous from every angle, and was a thoroughbred race-winning machine. Currently, 300SLs are trading hands for millions of dollars, however, this particular one could see those numbers bumped up quite significantly.

According to RM Auctions, the auction house will bang the hammer on this Mercedes 300SL and will likely set a record for the car. Why? Because this is one of the rarest 300SLs out there. It is actually the first car of four factory race prepared W198 Gullwings, and features the special NSL race engine. It also finished 2nd overall in the famed Tour de France with Sir Stirling Moss behind the wheel.

Additionally, the car spent 13 months with Mercedes’ factory racing department, which not only meant Sir Stirling Moss drove it, but also Karl King, John Fitch, Juan Manuel Fangio, and Hans Hermann. What makes it even more valuable is that only one of the other four cars built is known to still survive.

Pay attention this coming December, because this car is going to go for oodles of dough.
