Where Would the G-Wagen Be Without the Unimog Doka?

This Unimog Doka is the G-Wagen’s older, bigger, brawnier cousin.

We think we might have found the ultimate Mercedes-Benz for that handyman who already has everything.

Then again, this classic piece of machinery, which was recently up for sale on Bring a Trailer, would probably appeal to a few who aren’t that handy, as well.

The massive truck, known as the Unimog Doka, is a throwback to the earlier days of monstrous Mercedes-Benz vehicles, long before the hot 6X6 G-Wagen was even sketched. Although, it’s clear that lot of the modern SUV’s characteristics grew out of the Unimog, as highlighted in a report by The Drive.

Unimog Doka

This particular model was shipped from France to the U.S. It was actually used as a French Alpine Fire Truck, with some of the blaze-battling equipment still intact. Well, aside from the fire hose. But we imagine that one of those would be pretty easy to come by.

The bed of the Unimog is 102-inches long and 91-inches wide. And the truck is powered by a 5.6-liter I6 diesel motor mated to a manual transmission.

Even more impressive, the Unimog only has 27,000 miles on the odometer. And the seller has a list of all the maintenance done on the truck. The only down-side is that the bidding for the truck already ended, without the $24K reserve being met. So who knows, maybe we’ll see this beast up for auction again?
