SL65 AMG Black Series VS Koenigsegg CCR Evo

Two Fantastic Cars — the SL65 AMG Black Series and the Koenigsegg CCR Evo — Battle It Out on a Straightaway

Mercedes has never been a brand that disappoints, and newly surfaced footage of a runway race between the SL65 AMG Black Series and a Koenigsegg CCR Evo keeps that trend going.

In the video above, two champions meet on the runway. The first is a Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series. With its twin-turbo V12 engine, it can hit zero-to-60 in a mind-boggling 3.7 seconds. The second, and rarer of the two, is a Koenigsegg CCR. With a top speed of 241 mph, it beat the track record set by none other than the McLaren F1.

These two master roadsters take off without even a countdown. The cameraman sits in the passenger seat of the SL65. The two cars keep pace for moment. Then the SL65 pulls ahead for a hot second, before the CCR finds its grip and all but disappears down the runway, leaving the Black Series behind.

Commenters estimate that the only reason the SL65 managed to pull ahead is that it took the CCR a few extra seconds to find its footing, and get a good grip on the runway. Still, it’s an impressive race when you consider that the Koenigsegg costs at least a half-million dollars.

Sometimes, it seems like race cars, or race-quality cars, are a dime a dozen. So what makes these two competitors so special?

The SL65 AMG Black Series is a testament to Mercedes’ engineering and ingenuity. While it would make a comfortable daily driver, it’s so much more than that, with that V12 under the hood. Some drivers have commented that it doesn’t handle as well as it could, with that big engine making it a little nose-heavy. But an upgraded suspension system can easily make up for the added weight.

The Koenigsegg CCR, on the other hand, is a car that easily exceeds all expectations. With a 3.2-second zero to 60, it can handle quite a bit. The V8 engine is a little smaller than the SL65, but that doesn’t stop it from leaving everyone else in its dust. The car also currently holds the speed record at Nardo, and the slalom record at Nurburgring.

While these two cars might seem equally matched, the video doesn’t lie. It was close for a bit, but its tough to top the CCR.
