Weistec Set to Race Two AMG GT3 Cars in the 2016 Pirelli World Challenge Series - Weistec-AMG GT3 Car

Weistec Engineering is perhaps best known for taking already frantic, ridiculously over-powered pieces of Mercedes engineering, and then adding more power, more stopping force, and more noise. And the company’s videos have gained international renown, thanks to people like Matt Farah of The Smoking Tire.

In addition to building ridiculous street machines, and now working with the new AMG GT S, the company has stated that they will now be fielding two new supercars in next year’s Pirelli World Challenge Series.

According to a company press release, “Mercedes-Benz has a proud history of being the dominant force in motor racing dating back to the reign of the Silver Arrows on the Grand Prix circuit of the 1930s and the 300 SLRs that ruled sports car racing during the 1950s. Now, Weistec Engineering, the brand of choice for the cars, community, and culture of the Mercedes AMG enthusiast, prepares to field two Mercedes-AMG GT3 cars in the upcoming 2016 season of the Pirelli World Challenge. Drawing on its years of technical expertise, Weistec aims to amplify its presence both in the United States and internationally by racing what they sell.”

What’s interesting, though, is that the new AMG GT3 uses the 6.3-liter naturally aspirated V8 out of the last generation SLS. One would have thought that Mercedes would want to promote its new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that actually made its way into the road car.

If the company’s street cars are any indication of what we’ll get from their racecars, next season is going to be a real treat. Just look at how well they did baseline testing with the new AMG GT S road car, which you can see in the video below.
