Ex-DTM Race Car Makes For a Hell of a Garage Centerpiece

Each one of us has a dream car. For some, the dream was sparked by a toy, a model kit, a video game, or a photo in a magazine. For others, our choice of dream car was inspired by an impressive racetrack performance that made us into a fan for life.
Touring car racing is more or less built around that principle. While the cars on the track may resemble the examples you can buy in a showroom from a distance, they’re purpose-built machines that use almost no stock parts. Still, a successful finish can inspire folks to buy the roadgoing version of the winning car. As the old motorsports saying goes, “win on Sunday, sell on Monday.”
For many Mercedes-Benz fans, watching Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) sparked the love affair with the brand. For many years, Mercedes-Benz was very successful in the series. That success certainly gave Mercedes – especially AMG – some street cred with car enthusiasts.
Winning Pedigree
What if you could own the actual car you watched race (and win) on TV? That would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, right? Well, if you watched Robert Wickens win the 2015 DTM race at the Norisring street circuit in Nuremberg, you’re in luck.
According to Auto Evolution, Wickens’ 2014 Mercedes-AMG C63 DTM race car is being offered for sale. The car wears serial number RS15-012, and is offered for sale by German Mercedes-Benz specialist Mechatronik. Located just north of Stuttgart, Mechatronik is well-regarded as an expert in classic Mercedes-Benz restoration.
The car is presented in immaculate, race-worthy condition, allowing you to live out your DTM fantasies to your heart’s content. Also available are an impressive collection of spares to keep your race car running its best.
Of course, this sort of thing doesn’t come cheap. The asking price is 1,282,328 Euros, which is equivalent to over $1.5 million. That said, if your love affair with the C63 AMG began with DTM, this is simply the only way to go.
