YouTuber Valiantly Battles Snow with High-powered AMG

Does a biturbo V8 C63 stand a chance against the blisteringly cold Pennsylvania winter?

If you’ve never had to move a shovel full of snow in your life, consider yourself lucky. For those of us who do have to deal with it, it’s the stuff of nightmares. Not that the powder itself is terrifying, but the slush, potholes, terrible driving, and, of course, road salt that comes with it is. Yes, for those of us who fear getting sideswiped by some winter-beater as much as catastrophic rust, winter is the worst. But every now and then, someone brave stands up and says “no more.”

Usually, those rare and unexpected sunny thaws are when you’ll see people giving their prides and joy the old Italian tune-up. But for Pennsylvania-based YouTuber AutoVlog, the only cure for his cabin fever was to take his C63 AMG coupe out for a spin. On summer performance tires. In some seriously less-than-favorable conditions.

Battling the winter AMG-style

“This weather, it’s getting to me,” he says.”It’s pretty boring to have snow like this, I mean, you can’t really do much.” So he does what he has to do and takes the AMG out in the snow. Pretty quickly, he realizes he’s in a bit of a situation.

“Yeah, these tires, they don’t work at all,” he says. After sliding while making a very slow turn, and going up a hill sideways (and not in a fun way), starts slipping in just a few inches of snow. While it’s glorious to hear the big Merc rev, we know from experience that this isn’t how you want to do it.

So, fed up with sliding everywhere, he does what anyone would do in his situation: Finds an empty unplowed parking lot and does donuts. Then he demonstrates launch control in the snow, and takes a hill with traction control on, then off.

Finally, he strikes at another part of winter driving: The salt. After just a few miles of driving, it’s caked in salty slush. “Just look at my car, man,” he says, “the thing’s a mess.” Then, thankfully, he takes the car through the carwash before putting it back in the garage.

In the end, he comes to the only logical conclusion.”Driving on the road in weather like this with these tires is completely useless,” he says.”It just doesn’t work, and it’s quite frankly and honestly dangerous.” For those who don’t know the feeling, putting your dream car in the garage and not driving it for months at a time really hurts. But after watching this, you’ll see why us Rust Belters let our dream cars hibernate all winter.
