Why do all new E55's come with sub par tires?

the good years and Yokohama were better all around than the PS2's...
The used 3 series BmW's to test braking, wet, dry, acceleration.. ect
i was surprised of their findings. Maybe somebody has the article scanned and can post.

Do I wish they had better straight line? Sure. Are they good for OEM? Yes.
Cornering is decent for 4k lb sedan. I don't track the car, so I can't really comment on that aspect. They handle backroads and on ramps just fine.
Not entirely sure whether the PS2's are grippier than the Conti's. Took the E55 to the strip on Saturday and could not get the 1.8 - 1.9's that I was able to get pretty regularly with the Conti's. Track was very cold, so that could have been the reason why. No question that the PS2 is the sharper handling, more responsive tire of the two. Throwing the car around is much easier with the PS2's. But until I can cut a 1.8 60' time, I can't say that the PS2 is the better tire for the strip.

PS2 are the only tires I use and have two sets, 18" and 19".
If you buy the best car in the world why try and save on tires?
You'd think/wish MB would have thought the same way, especially since the only thing between the entire car and the road is the tires. It seems to me tires would be considered a most important component and only the very best would do.
