Best of luck. Be advised that adding "AMG" to the description of a 2.3-16 or 2.5-16 (which was not brought to North America) isn't going to be helpful, since AMG had nothing to do with the design or manufacture of the models.

"Mint" models still do exist, but they will be the exception rather than the rule. Some low mileage examples have been offered in the $15-20K range, with few takers. A more typical "needs some work" model will sell in the $5-7K range.

Thanks for the input. There is a 2.3 for sale in Hemmings Motor News, please see ad:

Vehicles: MERCEDES-BENZ: 1986 190E, AMG 16-valve 5-speed (set 24-hour World Speed record), motor by Cosworth, body by AMG, a loaded, 78,000 mile, meticulously maintained car, books, records & window sticker, rare & awesome! $16,900. Mopars and Classics, 412-736-3600, PA. Category: Collector

I contacted the seller, about 150 miles from my home, requesting photos but his answer was typical from a wheeler dealer, "call me and I'll teach you how to get to our website and retrieve photos of the 20 cars that we have for sale". Ridiculous.

There is also one with, according to the seller, 22K miles on the clock, but he is asking too much for it - he does not specify if it is manual or auto.

Vehicles: MERCEDES-BENZ: 1986 190E 16V,22000mls, collectable quality, all original, show room condition, automatic, pearl/black, headers, leveling system, tuned suspension, not many of these left in original conditon and with low miles, will have a featured article with pictures in one of the 2006 monthly Mercedes-Benz Starr Magazine. May be at Barrette-Jacksons auction $26,000 obo Contact: 602 920 8046, AZ

Which 190s came to the States with a Cosworth engine and Getrag gearbox or were they gray market cars?

Kind regards,

Orazio

All 2.3-16s had the Cosworth head, depending on how it was ordered it could have came with an auto or the Getrag 5-spd.

Mopar & Classics 190E

Chaps,

I was able to browse thru the M&P website and the car looks great (www.autabuy.com.; click on "browse dealers" and later scroll to Mopar & Classics. This dealer specializes in American muscle cars.

1986 MERCEDES BENZ AMG 2.3 - 16 VALVE / 5 SPEED

Immaculate AMG 16 Valve 2.3 Five Speed - The Real 'ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE' - 7,000 RPM Motor by Cosworth - 5 Speed By Getrag - Body by AMG - 78K -Books, Records & Window Sticker - Incredible Looks - Awesome Performance

Price: $16,900.

They are located near Pittsburgh, further than I thought. Even though I can drive to PA, I won't be able to determine the car's condition by looking at it and I can end with a lemon.

Anyone able to provide some feedback, comments, suggestions?

Thanks very much.

Regards,

Orazio
