Need help with my 1991 190E 2.3
 

My parents have a 1991 190E 2.3 sitting in the garage for quite a long time (> 1 year). They don't want it anymore (they have a E320) and gave it to me as a gift. Now I have to figure out how to get it working again.

1. The car doesn't start, probably due to a dead battery. Should I replace it or try to recharge it? What is a good (and cheap) replacement?

2. Air conditioning doesn't work. There's air coming out from the vent but you can't control the speed and the temp. It seems like the climate control panel isn't working. The panel has been replaced before though so I'm not sure if it's the same problem.

3. Radio isn't working. The stereo unit turns on but the sound is muffled. No sound coming out from the front speakers and the rear speakers only produce noise.

The 190E has been our family car since 1991 and I hate to see it go. But I don't want to spend a whole lot on it because my parents already spent over $10,000 in the last couple of years fixing it.

Ok as for the battery....Buy a new one...Go to your local/national auto parts shop and get the battery..Ie...Advanced Auto Parts/Pep Boys..

The AC could be a problem...really I wouldnt worry about it off the bat...You may need to get that recharged...or just replace the panel.

Go to Best Buy and get a new radio...and a few speakers...Really you dont want to spend thousands on it...Set a limit like say 2,500 over a period of a 1.5 years and go from there. Otherwise sell the car and use your profit as a down on a newer used car!
