Starting issues...

Ok, so my 190E turns on fine, but it turns right back off as if fuel cut or something. I have been checking everything, I am starting to think that it is b/c of the key cylinder. Can that keep the car from staying on if its malfunctioning? How do I remove it w/ breaking it more? thanx

Bump, no ideas???? Ok, is there anything by the glovebox that has to do with ignition? Cause I hear a humming sound from there everytime I turn the key on. Ok, the car starts revs to 3k and the rev instantly falls straight to 0... Is there a sensor or something that could be causing this? Or is this an ignition problem? Any help is much appreciated. I dont know much about Mercedes, I am a Rotary(RX7) guy. Please help. I dont want to give up on the car because it is beautiful, and when it does run, its soooo smooth.

Go to 190revolution.net's forums. Much more info there as it is a site dedicated to the W201 family of vehicles.

To me the initial diagnosis would be the crank position sensor. It connects to the Ignition Controller on the drivers side fender well and is a green wire with a big connector. Simple test is to measure resistance with a Volt Ohm Meter of the center pin to the shield. Pull the plug from the ignition module and test it. It should be between 700Ohm and 900 if I recall correctly. If not then you sensor may be bad. Post results here or go to the other forum.

As for the ignition, you need to turn the key to position one and then with a tool you can pull the ignition tumbler out.

As for the hum on the passenger side, that is the fan that draws air over the sampling temp sensor in the headliner by the rear view mirror. That lets the climate control unit know what the interior temp of the car is so it can adjust the temperature to the desired level based on the temp wheel setting. It runs anytime the key is on.

For your running issue it could be anything but start with that sensor. If that checks ok we can move on.

Your problem sounds somewhat similar to the problem we had with our 190E, 2.3. Take a look at: https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...hreadid=126022.

It could be several things, but in our case it turned out to be a ‘fuel’ problem. The first thing that I would check out would be the fuel pump.

Let us know what you find out.

Yes, your problem sounds just like mines. Except mines is only happening sometimes. Where exactly is the start valve located?

I will try to take a picture. Not sure how I can post the picture though, but I will give it a go.
