Changing Rear Shocks

Any write-ups anywhere on how to change the rear shocks on a 1992 190e 2.6 (non-sport model)? Need to do soon and have never done before. Thanks.

You think you need to? Whenever I stop my car bounces back and forth like a see saw.

I could benefit from this too as I need new suspension.

My mechanic ended up installing them for free for me. Got parts at cost and only had to pay labor for the front struts. He showed me on the old ones that you could easilt puch them down by hand. they were really shot!

super easy

The rear shocks are no big deal, but I did have some trouble doing them the way the service manual says. Use some backup jackstands because you might have to get under things a bit. The service manual tells you to pull out the top end of the shock first. Don't do it!!! this will ruin the next couple of hours if you do. Instead, take off wheel, wrap a string/rope/whatever around the shock, then pry up the bottom of the shock with a very large flathead screwdriver. When shock is clear of the mount, pull string (and the shock it is wraped around) towards you. Shock will then drop out hassle free.

This URl is the service manual. But, I warn you against taking the top of the old shock off before the bottom.

Also, when you put the new ones in, have a friend compress the shock while you put on the rubber bushing, and then replace the compression strap that comes on the shock. Install lower portion of shock, then line it up with the top hole and cut the strap.
