What am I missing?

I'm new to this model and buying pre-owned cars in general. My brother and I found a 190E 16v that doesn't run.

The price seems good enough (less than $4k) but maybe it wouldn't be so bad as a parts car...

What should we be on the look out for when we go to look at it?

What would be the value of a parts car?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

less than 4K? I bought mine running perfectly for 2100 with bad interior to give an idea. Hows the interior, SLS, miles, condition of body/bodykit, wheres it located, and biggest question is it auto or getrag?

Thanks for replying. $2100 huh? Seems like a steal. It's getrag, interior seems good. Body seems good. I haven't gone to see it in person yet as it is about 600 miles west of me. Thoughts?

Do you know why it doesnt run?
This is what I started with for 2100 with 113k on it

And after a few months and a lot of interior and suspension work and getting the engine up to par...

Thanks for the benchmark. Everything is relative and using your car as an example gives me a good place to start negotiations.

All else equal does a non-running 16v have enough value to get it running or even part it out? OR should I just run away from it?

yeah its worth it if the body and interior arent bad. Just try talking down the guy. do you know any of the symptoms at all or how long it has been sitting. probably wont be much to get it running, and if does end up needing a major overhaul could always swap in an AMG M104

Ok one more thing, since it isn't currently running, what do I need to know when transporting it? Loading it on a trailer or flatbed ect. Thanks again!

Yeah, without knowing more, $4,100 is way to much for a non-running 16V unless there is something special about this car we don't know yet.

I paid 8,000 for mine 2 yrs ago BUT it had a great history, perfect interior with 130K on her with a new getrag, timing chain, tensioners, etc already done.

Good luck - hey, why is not running? Find that out and then get back to us.

Yea $4100 is way to much for a non running 16v. And you would be lucky to get that much for parts too. But if you can talk him down it is definetly worth restoring.

If you do decide to part it out though.... I'm searching for a LSD

Good luck with the purchase!

Yeah I have been going back and forth w the seller. He says it was conking out and maybe its a fuel dist. He is open to an offer bt I can't say much until I actually get out there to see it. Seller also says everything else is great.

Carfax says the car failed emissions a few times years ago, then passed, then it never showed anything for 14 years. Weird.
