Want 1 190E Need Info

I would like to buy a 190E, but I am not sure of which were good years or what the power output of all the models is or even what models are what. Can someone point me in the right direction of where this info can be found? As well as what everyone here recommends or comment on the 190E. Thank you so much in advance. Oh and I work for an Auto Auction and see them go through all the time, looks like I may be able to pick one up for between $1000 and $2000 and I would like it as a backup to my new C230 SC. Not to mention the fact that my wife always has our baby benz and I want another so I can drive a benz too damnit....

I all depends what you are looking for. There are 1985-87 2.3 16Valve cars for performance. 1992-93 Sportlines for more modern features and some sportiness. There are 2.3 8Valves for gas mileage and 2.6 I6's for low end torque.

Regards,

Don

https://mbworld.org/forums/attachmen...&postid=350326 For that price, I'll take a '92-'93 SportLine or Special Edition !

The 2.6 is a nice all-round 190. Power close to the 16V without the parts costs, gas milage close to the 2.3 but with more useable torque. If you can possibly find a 5-Speed, all the better.

sorry, only the late 80's 2.3's are aroung 1000 bucks. We have 2 93's going through today and I am waiting to see what they bring. One is a 2.6 and one is a 2.3. We had an 87 2.3 registered but I have yet to see it on our lot.

Edit: The 93's should go for under $4000, but I only want a 2.3 for around $1000 for a 3rd car and an auto so my wife can get a 5 speed mini cooper S next year instead of an auto cooper. She is worried about leg injuries and not being able to drive a stick. So a cheap auto is a nice deal and why not have a Benz....

Be sure to post the results. Also, how about some pics of the lot?

Well, I don't have my camera this week. We had 2007 vehicles run in 11 lanes. Sold 1281. Three 190E's. The 87 went for $1400 with 140,000 miles. The other 2 were 93's, one 2.3 and one 2.6. The 2.3 went for $3250 and had 112,000 on it. The 2.6 was $3805 and had 80,000 on it. All were in real nice condition, I do not know how they ran. Anyway that is about it. I really just want a reliable vehicle, and do not really care about the power. I would like to know what each engine has for power though as I can not find that anywhere.

Edit: I will try to bring the camera next week. I will take a pic of the sale lot as we have 80 acres of land and the sale side is 40 of it.

The MBUSA site has a 15 year Model Overview that gives you that information.

I'd hestitate over a $1K 2.3, even from the late 80's . . . an MB with mech problems is a nightmare. The W201 has the typical 80's MB problems . . . A/C, cruise control, valve seals, chain tensioner and all the rubber suspension links.

So no major problems? I can most likely do valve seals and the rest are trivial problems to me. This is just for a toy car so I can play and have a third vehicle to work on. I do not plan on paying more that $1400 for one in a few months. Thanks for all the info and if there is anything I should look out for please feel free to let me know.
