swapping the 2.6 for a 3.0 M103?
Edit, well I never would've guessed wiki would have an article telling me what I needed to know about a changeover from the 2.6 to 3.0 M103, although it neglects to corroberate/mention what I've heard elsewhere that the transmission is different.
Has anyone around here done one of these conversions? Will the 2.6 auto stand up to the 3.0, is it the same? Sometimes the transmission serial code is different just because the crossmember is mounted different in the model it's in or something like that, is that the kind of difference between the transmissions of these two engines?
I'm also curious about some slight modification, I can't seem to find any aftermarket/performance cam profiles for the M103 (plenty for the M102). Is a custom grind just a matter of reading the camshaft profile on the flange and handing corresponding specs over to someone like Crane Cams for an increase in lift/duration?
The AMG 3.2 uses a 3.0 head with larger valves for the bigger capacity. Did it have other work or is the stock head already good with flow rates? It seems to flow pretty well given the max performance range is ca.4000-6000rpm to begin with, but my best guideline is probably trying to follow whatever work AMG did for their 3.2 on the 3.0 for good performance/drivability. Anybody an expert on these?
