'84 190E Self Servicing?
Hi Guys, I will be helping a mate with a '84 190E to do a self service.
And am after some info like... Oil filter part numbers, grade of oil for 200-300km car?
I haven't looked under his bonnet yet, was also thinking about doing sparks, is it easy to get to these areas?
Is there anything else you recommend doing?
Thanks for any info.
Shane

Synthetic oils are great for high-mileage cars. I use Mobil 1 15W-40. The spark plugs are easy to get to since the engine is in a straight configuration. Check the air filter and replace if dirty. Inspect the coolant level and add 50/50 water/antifreeze if necessary. If you ever drain and refill the cooling system, use only MB antifreeze. It has special corrosion-inhibiting properties designed for your engine's aluminum parts. The following are OEM products for your under-the-hood enjoyment:
Air filter: Mann
Oil filter: Bosch
Spark Plugs and Wires: Bosch
Antifreeze: MB
Wishing you the best...

Great, thanks for that Jer, what spark plug gap is also recommended?
Was thinking of putting in some Philips xenon bulbs, as one of his bulbs is blown too.

I personally would be careful with synthetic oil on older cars never been driven with that. Synthetic oil has the tendency to seap through gaskets and joints better than mineral oil and the engine may start leaking and sweating oil. I would stick to the regular motor oil, and rather change oil sooner than recommended, say 5000-7000 km.
