2.3 16 - Charging circuit go through the Volt Gauge?

'86 2.3 16. Does the charging circuit go through the volt gauge? My Gauge has gone dead and I am only getting 11.23v (at best) Checked at the battery and from the alternator. I believe the alternator is dying as well, but just want to make sure I am not getting a voltage drop due to the volt gauge being in-op. I did check the input at the gauge and it is only reading low 11's as well, so it would appear the issue is before the gauge.

Thanks and regards;
Tony

Tony,

Sounds like the alternator or maybe just the voltage regulator is bad... the regulator should be mounted on the alternator, disconnect the battery then unbolt the regulator...

check the brushes.... should look something like this....

if they are unevenly worn than the alternator is on the way out as well...
