EVO II Suspension Issues and options
Hello Everyone
I have an original 190E 2.5-16 EVO II (# 477) that I bought used in Japan a couple of years ago (Im in central america). It is all stock except for the wheels that I put a set of 18" DTM replicas. https://scontent.fgua1-1.fna.fbcdn.n...fa&oe=5B89240F Since I bought the car, the car came with problems in the hydraulic suspension system. The car did not raise fast enough, and the rear suspension came, when I bought the car, too stiff, and I change the 4 sphares (accumulators) in all 4 corners. The rear got a little better, but then the rear felt like a citroen suspension. Too soft, and the rebound extremely slow. And Im sure that is not normal on this cars. Now, the car did not raise at all, specailly on the front. A couple of mercedes technicians told me that there is a vlave distributor on the front that is the problem,. I have change 2 times the oil suspension pump that goes in the engine cam. But the problem persist. I have search for different options, to eliminate the hydraulics at all and put some coil over system. Found that H&R did a cup kit for the W201 cars, H&R part No. 31006-2 https://www.reifenshop-direkt.de/med.../hr_cupkit.jpg How ever, I havent found any EVO II owners that made this change on their cars. I was wondering if anyone have used this H&R cup kit in their w201 cars. or even better EVO II owners with same suspension issues. Tanks everyone for reading. |
I have a special suspension kit by KW for my Evo2 built and configured by Thorsten Stadler Motortechnic amazing stuff really however for the road you might be better off keeping and repairing the OEM system @ Stadler imo just write to me with a PM if needed |
Well... I am alsi lucky to own the H&R kit on my evo1 race car... imo also a really great system too:zoom: the front system on my Evo2 is full coil-over |
Hello guys, I have a Evo2 that the suspension does not raise. Can hear the solenoid clicking. Does anyone have an idea where to look?

I also had this problem before.
You will have to change the suspension oil pump, that is located on the head of the engine. Because the suspension oil pump is moved by the exhaust camshaft. It is the same oil pump as the W126 sedan & coupes. It is very common that this oil pumps wear out and need to be changed it or rebuild. Good Luck |

Congrats on owning the holy grail of the W201 universe which is the EVO II. I'm not sure what to tell you since my W201 is a far more mortal version that doesn't have your suspension. I might best advise you to check with the MB Classic Center. They can better advise you. There's a location in Germany and a location in California. I wish I could offer you more help. It's not every day that an EVO II owner posts in this forum. Let us know what the MB Classic Center advises you. Would love to see a picture of your EVO II.
