190E 3.0 AMG (Question Ft. Pics)
Hey everyone,
Just purchased a monochrome 904 blue 190E 2.6 (barn find). I know a good deal about early AMG cars, enough to know that records are pretty scant because of the independent nature of the shop network and a-la-carte bevy of post-purchase options available to buyers during the early AMG time. So my question is this: Did AMG ever offer a 3.0 engine? Not a 3.2 but a 3.0.... Furthermore, VIN, chassis plate, head plate, nothing says AMG so I just figured I'd ask if there was a way to tell. The car I purchased has an AMG period correct full monochrome body kit w/ color matched monoblocks, suspension kit, gauge cluster, badges....only thing I don't know about is the engine, which I strongly believe is the factory 2.6L. Cheers, https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...f6232b8370.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...e2224656f2.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...0452ceabdf.jpg |

Unless you changed the engine, the car was built with a standard 103.942 engine which is 2.6 liter----if you paid more than 500 for the car, go have a drink.

If anyone changed the engine then it was an independent or AMG-partnered shop in 1988, not me. 1st owner did all the a-la-carte stuff but yeah, I'm pretty certain its just the factory 2.6, spec sheet aside.

After checking a great deal of older posts, it looks like the most surefire way to check the engine is a stamp under the airbox/intake. Everything else can be faked, or purchased, modified, removed, but not that engine stamp. Still think its a 2.6
