2-Piece Front Rotor

Who would be interested in a 2-Piece front rotor to save about 6 lbs of rotating mass on each wheel? Combine this with lightweight wheels for another 5-6lbs per wheel and the numbers start to add up.

The front rotor on a C350 is 12.7" and weighs 23.8lbs. Typical 2-piece rotors of the same size weight around 17.5lbs.

I am working with this company http://www.racingbrake.com/AUDI_s/2863.htm as their S4 rotor is almost identical size but the hat offset is different (24.1mm vs our 43mm). The more interest the more likely and cheaper we can have a new hat made to fit our applications.

Unfortunately this will only work for the C350 as according to the MB site the C300 luxury and sport models have a 11.6" front rotor unless there is a misprint?

1 other person of interest only? Keep in mind this is a very easy part to swap out, beneficial in many regards with the only drawback being price, and keeps the integrity of the car. For people leasing the car you can put your stock rotor back on within 15 minutes and sell this part or swap it onto the next Mercedes if it fits.

I heard back from the rotor supplier and they have rotors for both C350 and C300 sizes which is a positive as it's the more expensive part for tooling. Now all we need is enough interest to have hats made for our specs but that doesn't seem too likely.

Attached is a picture of how easily the rotor is removed. Two rear bolts allow the brake caliper to come off and the set screw circled in red allows the rotor to slid right off the hub. As easy as changing a tire with slightly more work.

Can't a C350 rotor fit on a C300? Is there any specification difference (besides the size) that prevents a simple swap?

If it's like VW and Audi, we could simply swap the 300 caliper brackets with 350 brackets as they are likely a little longer placing the caliper further out to accomodate the larger C350 rotor.

For example, a lot of Passat owners used the caliper brackets from the 225hp Audi TT so they could use the TT's larger rotors. The result is more leverage, thus better braking.

A nice caliper bracket, larger C350 drilled rotor, stainless line kit would be nice.

If anyone with a C300 in the Chicagoland area wants to see pm me and we can find out.

I'd really like to have these 2-piece rotors made so if a C300 can upgrade with ease and we then just need one common part the better.
