How many people who have it really don't use it? I have it on my e350, and I imagine I use it 10% of the time. I guess I just prefer not having the bulky key fob in my pocket while driving.

Now I do like the keyless entry and one touch door lock feature, though I have found myself taking the key fob out recently and unlocking the doors from afar as I approach.

I honestly use it 99% of the time, and it is one of my favorite features of the car. I would definitely miss this option if I didn't have it.

I agree, though I use it 100% of the time. This was a must-have option for me. It's awesome when I'm walking with co-workers to our respective cars after work. I simply grab the door handle, jump in the car, push the start button, the car roars to life - and I'm off. They're still trying to find their key....

The concept is great. But, in FL car interiors get scorching hot during the summer. I can't tell you how many time I have burned my fingers and hands touching the metal on the shifter.

My wife just keeps the key fog in her purse and never touches it. I notice when I drive the car, I can get in, start the car and get going much faster with Keyless Go. No fumbling with the ignition key.

Ditto on 100%. I bought a windshield shade for the summer, not only does that silver button get might hot, but the wood wheel is a scorcher after a 95 degree day. I figure with the time I save scrambling for my key fob, I can use to put up and take down the shade.

Use it 100% of the time, even if I take the key out to lower the windows & roof to let the heat out on certain Summer days, I put the key back in my pocket & use the button to start.

The round start button since 2007 is brushed aluminum & it does get very hot in a parked car. The 03-06 square start button was chromed plastic & was much cooler to the touch... an "improvement" gone awry I guess.

I like the brushed aluminum button, looks so cool. But then again my car is in the garage most of the times and rarely sits outside in the sun, I usually drive at night or try to park in the shade.

I "think" I have it, but am not sure. How can I tell? I have read the manual, but it really doesn't make any sense to me whether i have it or not. I bought my '07 from a MBZ dealer, but didn't have time to review all the particulars as i had to start driving home (6 hrs from where i bought it).

I have a white sport edition with birdseye & GPS...does this help?

If you have it, you'd know. There's a big START button on top of your gearshift.

As others, I use mine 100% of the time. Our R500 doesn't have this feature and I hate not having it.

It is women's feature. They usually have a bag or purse, so pulling keys from a bag is quite complex procedure, considering that you have much stuff there. I keep keys in pocket as well so like to use them in regular way. However since I drive the car very rarely alone, the feature takes 99% of use.

Another good use for men, I do not take carts in grocery stores, so keep all stuff in my hands, so when I approach a car I just open trunck and put suff there. I couldn't take keys from pocket without putting my carriage on the ground.

Have it on the CL500, never use it. Yes, definitely a plus for women. Two dislikes: I don't trust the transponder system for the keyless go (Feel safer with the key in ignition, call me old school) and I like busting out the benz keys when I'm on my way to the car (kind of a show off thing, call me a show off ).

Damn starter buttons on the floor! Give me a crank starter any day. I just don't trust those confound buttons. ...Credit cards? Don't use 'em ...just good ole cash on the barrelhead... and a dose of good ole common sense!

I dont understand why some say that you cant imagine not having keyless go. I think it's simple enough to just insert the key into the ignition and a quick turn. As the engine starts i'll fasten my seatbelt and then put in drive and go. What's next? Have your door open and close automatically for you too? The seatbelt idea didn't work too great years ago .

Although i agree it's great for a women because of the purse and the kids, but what about safety? Can the START button be pushed when standing outside the car? If so, this could be a theif's dream as all they have to do to run a way with your car is to have you standing next to it. You even can be Chuck Norris can still get your E stolen LOL.

Interesting. I hadn't thought of that. So if I give my car to the valet or carwash guy, I better take my key out of my pocket and give it to him or he's sol. I understand he can't restart it without the key in close proximity, but will it actually shut off when you walk away?

I've actively used the keyless go since I posted this (since I'm the OP and since so many posted that they couldn't live without it) and I do acknowledge that it's a nice feature. I could live without it, but it's still nice. The ability to lock and unlock the doors and trunk without the key in hand is the real value though.

When I go to the car wash, I use the key in the ignition so they can shut it off in the tunnel & restart it to drive it out. Same with the valet. you don't know how far away the car will be from you when they take it... and it can't be too far from you.

It will not shut off the engine on my 2005 but for example if you place the car in Park and get out and allow another driver to drive without the key (you are out of the car and the key is with you) the car will warn the driver that the key is not found in the car and I think the dash turns red. It will not turn off automatically but when that driver does stop the engine with the button it will not start back.

Also, for Keyless-Go to work to start the car the SmartKey must be IN the car - can't be in proximity.

Is there a credit card transpondeur available from mercedes? Jeust get it in the wallet is much more comfortable than keeping a key in pocket...

That's a great idea and I shouldn't be surprised when a credit card sized RFID tag/transponder like solution is deployed. But, a standard key is quite helpful if/when the transponder fails. I've had my Audi "keyless go" system fail due to a dead battery in the remote key unit. Overall, keyless go is a very convenient feature and I use it 99.99% of the time. Anyway, we've got many years ahead of us until other all other key driven systems and locks(office, home, cycle, boat, file cabinets, safe deposit boxes, etc.) become smart and we're not somewhat bound to carrying keys in our pockets...

It actually was designed this way in the early Keyless-Go system (around 2000-2002 or so) and was dropped because the credit card module had reliability problems with people breaking them sitting on them in their wallet, etc. But that is the way the earlier cars operated. I don't know if you can order the replacement credit card transponder for a newer car or not. That would be nice but I would probably leave my office keys at home by accident!
