Rain sensor - sunroof interface

Sometime in MY06, I believe, there was an announcement/printing by MBUSA that the rain sensor can now close an open sunroof. I STFF'd and cannot locate that statement, or similar.

Could anybody who knows point me in the right direction. My SA/tech have seen in on a C-class in the overhead control module but are lost on the E-class.

Thanx

Yeah I tested this feature out on the E63. Apparently, if you leave the rain sensor on, in position 1, and it turns the wipers on, it will close all the windows and sunroof (pano included). Pretty cool feature actually. This was for all 2007+ W211 models.

Where did you see this? Do you have anything in writing on this. My FM doesn't address this. I have an MY07 E350 and had the wipers in position 1; the wipers activated but the sunroof didn't close.

Thanx

I don't see why the switch would need to be at position 1?

From MB documentation I've read that this feature would be disabled from US cars (it may be outdated info or it may only concern certain MY range etc.).

The idea is that the car can be parked with the roof open and switched off/doors closed and the roof would close and open to the rear up position to prevent (most) rain getting into the car.

I actually went to wash my windscreen at the garage and opened the sunroof fully first (the standard sunroof on a W221). When I put some water on the windscreen, the roof closed in a couple of seconds, and the rear was raised (just like my manual explains).

If it is switched off, perhaps version coding experts can find a way to enable it (unless it is protected by SCN in which case it may be impossible, you would not want to turn coding completely to a European car).

From the Euro manual:

http://www4.mercedes-benz.com/e/cars...d13e56530.html

Rain closing feature*

If the ignition key has been removed and the vehicle is locked, the sliding/tilting sunroof closes automatically:
  • if it starts to rain
  • at extreme outside temperatures
  • After 6 hours
  • if there is a malfunction in the power supply
The rear of the sliding/tilting sunroof is then raised in order to ventilate the interior of the vehicle.

The sliding/tilting sunroof is opened slightly again if it is obstructed while being closed by the rain closing feature. The rain closing feature is then deactivated.

The sliding/tilting sunroof does not close if:
  • it is raised at the rear
  • it is blocked
  • no rain is falling on the windscreen (e.g. because the vehicle is under a bridge or in a carport)

Thanx Diesel Benz. I saw that as well in a German manual. But I also remember seeing it published in an abbreviated form by MBUSA. That is what I'm trying to locate. Especially since MB Fanatic was able to get it working; could be that the E63 has more SW capability than a regular E.

So this works automatically? I have an 08 E350 with Pana roof. If my windshield gets wet it will automatically close the roof and the windows?

I doubt the two cars would have a different control unit and different SW capability, the cars can still be coded differently.

I hope someone can help with the US reference for this function.

It does work on any Euro E-class with normal sunroof. I don't know if it works on US cars, you can try but don't through water through the open sunroof but on the rain sensor instead . Remember to have doors locked.

From the Euro manual (link above) I can only find the rain closing feature mentioned for the normal sunroof, not for the pano-roof. I'm not sure if this is a mistake in the manual or if the feature really is missing from the pano-roof.

OK, my tech looked today and could not find anything in DAS dealing with the overhead control unit - thats where he saw it on other MB models. Where else could this be located?

maybe if it's an option on the regular sunroof, it's assumed the same function works with the pano?

Can you run your Star in normal workshop mode, I have it (the version coding option) in normal mode but could it be that a standard US workshop installation would not have it?

...that feature is not in the OCP...not in any MB as far as I know...have him look into the rear SAM (I am not sure whether it is vissible in the non developer mode)

My 2002 E220CDI didn't have it either - does have it now.

Thanx Steve.

Anyway, would you by chance be able to provide the necessary steps next time you're in a W211. My build date is 07/06

greetingz,
I find this confusing, when I browsed through the different W211 model options at DAS, all had the rain closing setting at the "DBE" control unit section, that should be overhead control panel.

I had a look at some other models but either I did not find the setting or it was hidden behind SCN (and I don't have developer mode available).

I had a look at rear-SAM settings for W211 and found nothing for the sun roof.

Obviously I don't have all the cars (not even the multiplexer at home) and was just running DAS in simulation mode.
